Item Pine River Anthology 1969(The Parnassians at Alma College, 1969) Keeslar, DouglasIt has been a good year in the Arts at Alma College. It has seen attempts in all of the various media. There have been experimental movies, plays, poetry, short stories, even a novel by committee. In spite of the political slant which this year has seemed to have taken, there is more involvement in the arts than in any of the past four years. Curiously, much of the work follows the comic vein and perhaps this is due to the currentness of the Black Humor as a literary fashion. Notwithstanding the similarity of mood, there is a certain breadth in terms of technique. This year we are adding a song and a prose ballad in the spirit of the "talking-blues". The Pine River Anthology represents the best of the literary attempts of the past year at Alma College. We hope you like it.Item Pine River Anthology 1968(The Parnassians at Alma College, 1968) Keeslar, Douglas; Teeuwissen, Peter; Speakman, SteveStudents today, in general, tend to write with a broadly-sweeping, vague allusiveness which characterized the popular arts in the fifties. In the graphic arts, the abstraction which had lost its referend was laid before the critic with the suggestion made that color and design were of the most significance. In popular music, the ballad was replaced to some extent by the titillating mysticism of the Beatles and many lesser craftsmen. In the theatre, students favored the absurd, and in the literary arts the structures of good free verse were overlooked and bad poetry sprang up in a rash. The point of all this, is that art is, at least in the mind of the Parnassians, observation and hard work. As one must be able to observe and draw faithfully to have any proficiency in the graphic arts, so must an author recount faithfully to have any proficiency in the literary arts. The literary arts need be firmly based on the images of nature and human nature. Imagery, naturalism, originality, and comprehensibility are necessary. The student works which follow have, to some degree, met these requirements.Item Pine River Anthology 1967(The Parnassians at Alma College, 1967) Schultz, TomThe Pine River Anthology--a selection of original poems, stories, and essays--is published by students of Alma College in association with Parnassians, the campus writing group. This year's Anthology received large and important contributions of time, talent, work, and materials from the students of Alma's Art Department. To the artists, to the advisers, and especially to the writers, l give thanks.Item Pine River Anthology 1966(The Parnassians at Alma College, 1966) The ParnassiansThe Pine River Anthology is a publication of the Parnassians, a group of Alma College students and professors interested in creative writing and formed with the belief that discussion and criticism of the original works of its members both encourages and improves creative attempts. The poems and short stories in this edition of The Pine River Anthology were chosen by the Parnassians as the most interesting creative efforts of this academic school year.Item Pine River Anthology 1965(The Apprentice Guild at Alma College, 1965) Brown, Beverly; Tack, Kathy; Brown, Barbara
