Description
"This research paper creates deeper meaning into poets Anne Sexton and Sylvia Plath and their poetry during the confessional movement through the lens of the theory l’écriture féminine, or feminine writing. By reading selected poems by Sexton such as “The Wedding Ring Dance” and “Housewife” and by Plath, “The Applicant” and “Birthday Present,” we see how these women brought forth modern ideas that pushed past patriarchal ones that confined them. Through an analysis of Sexton and Plath’s poems and life, we see how these women broke that confinement and started to bring humanity back to women, who were seen as objects."
