Description
For our senior capstone project in dance, Kyleigh Hill and I directed the 2025 Student
Choreography Concert, also known as SCC. This concert is a collection of dance works
choreographed and performed fully by Alma College students. This project not only explored the
creativity and individuality of choreographers and dancers, but also allowed us to take on a
leadership role in organization and directorship. Our responsibilities included but were not
limited to planning and running auditions and faculty showings, as well as creating contracts,
managing music and show information, scheduling, and handling communication with all
involved members. With advice from our previous directors, as well as Faculty guidance from
Kayt MacMaster and Lynn Bowman, the process of putting on the concert was well informed.
Lots of planning and managerial work occurred throughout the past two academic years, making
our shows run smoothly come February. During the concerts, Kyleigh and I managed backstage
in communication with Chloe Seare, working our lighting and sound, as well as both danced in
and choreographed for the concert.
For the Student Choreography Concert, our goal as directors was to cultivate a positive,
inclusive, and professional environment for all dancers and choreographers to create freely. To
achieve this, we encouraged creative freedom amongst each choreographer within their pieces
which happily resulted in a very diverse and exciting concert. With dance styles ranging from
ballet, contemporary, tap, and more, the Student Choreography Concert embraced what it means
to be both an artist, athlete, and a student at Alma.
