Abstract
A new surge in creative writing has shown itself on campus this year. We have seen a newspaper column featuring student poetry, a pollution writing contest, and even a play written and produced. Many of these efforts have come to the critical attention of the campus writing group, Parnassians. We have found no single set of criteria reliable for determining success or failure in contemporary literature, including that of students. Traditional form is often discarded; consequently a piece must be judged purely on its own grounds, whether its chosen elements fit together and somehow "work". We believe each of the following writings, in its own way, works.
There have been many contributions to this year's Pine River, both literary and artistic. Several of these are included here, some are not; all of them were deeply appreciated. In assembling this anthology, variety and contrast were main objectives. As a result, hopefully, there will be something here which appeals to everyone.
