Abstract
Several studies have researched the difficulty of obtaining a degree when it comes to nursing, but the need exists for studying the impact of anxiety on nursing students’ mental health. This study builds on earlier research but takes it in a new direction through the aim of examining if anxiety levels in nursing students decrease after receiving education in anxiety-reducing techniques. This study aims to provide nursing students with anxiety-reducing techniques such as meditation and deep breathing exercises, that they can use to help cope with the stress of nursing school along the way. A GAD-7 screening tool will be administered within a student survey on Google Forms, before an educational presentation, to help determine the level of anxiety that the student is experiencing. Students were provided with the survey at the beginning of the semester. They will be provided it again during midterm week, seven weeks into the term, to see if individual levels of anxiety improved using anxiety-reducing techniques. The results of our study are still in the process of being fully finalized. While we cannot yet confirm the results, we are hopeful that the study will provide evidence that education on anxiety-reducing techniques will provide positive results through decreased nursing student anxiety levels.
