Abstract
This study aims to explore the potential connections between pre-college sources and quality of sexual health education such as guardians, school health educators and trusted adults on queer and straight college students' current sexual behaviors. These sexual behaviors include STD’s, diverse sexual practices, masturbation, consideration for asexuality, protective methods, and abstinence. This research holds the goal of presenting gaps in the sexual health resources offered by Alma College and offering implementable interventions to promote sexual wellness, positive sexual development and education on behalf of Alma College potentially through the Wilcox Health Center. As well as reducing the burden of sexual health education on behalf of student organizations like the Gender, Sexuality and Diversity club and opening conversations among students to remain curious and seek resource about sexual health.
A mixed methods survey was created with reference to the Youth Risky Behaviors Survey, The Sexual Health Assessments of Practices and Experiences Questionnaire and, The Utah College Sexual Behaviors Survey to consider the dimensions of sexual behaviors in a sex neutral, consent exclusive and queer affirming way. Expected results of the study may gleam differences between queer and straight students in both their previous education, current sexual practices and potentially sexual health misconceptions. Expected data will utilize correlation, regression, ANOVA, T-test and Chi Squared statistical tests to find correlations, variance and comparison within and between groups. These expected results can be useful for tailoring interventions to the unique and diverse experiences of queer and straight students on campus.
