Abstract
The research I plan to show on Honors Day will be about the Armenian Genocide, an event that began April 24, 1915, that. lead to the death of proximately 1.5 million Armenians. I will show the history of this event and what lead up to the genocide. I will ask the important question why some states recognize or deny the Armenian Genocide as an actual genocide? The states that I will be analyzing for this research are Israel, U.S., and Turkey as they either have history connected with the Armenian Genocide or have dealt with genocides before. This research will be done by using both primary and secondary sources as this will be qualitative research. It will research by using sources like Relationship with Genocide Recognition; Republic of Turkey Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The Armenian Allegation of Genocide: The Issue and the Facts; Ben Aharon, Eldad, Recognition of the Armenian Genocide after Its Centenary; and Yair Auron, The Banality of Denial. This research plans to bring light to the Armenian genocide as it is usually overshadowed by bigger tragedies like the Holocaust. I believe that this research will show both the domestic and foreign reasons why states like Israel and Turkey deny the Armenian Genocide. Though some states like the U.S. have recently recognized the Armenian Genocide there are reasons most states avoid calling the events of April 24, 1915, a genocide. This can be seen with only 34 states in the world recognizing the Armenian Genocide as a genocide.
