Abstract
We are happy to present this year's Pine River, continuing the format initiated last year but with a fresh filling of Poetry, fiction, and critical writing. Again we would like to offer sincere thanks to the College for providing the English department with the cold cash necessary for such a publication and to the authors for struggling with the frustrating problems involved in creating and in good measure succeeding in the struggle.
Most of the material here included stood screening by the college literary club, Parnassians. If a plug is in order, and I will assume so, Parnassians furnishes persons of the Alma College community-students, professors, alumni, townspeople--who are interested in literature with the opportunity to gather and talk about it or present it to be talked about. It gives them a chance to criticize and stimulate each other's literary efforts, be these in reading and discussing or in writing. Of course the club functions mainly for the benefit of students, with "outsider" participation encouraged in order that a broader outlook because of more varied experience might occur.
Little need be said concerning the material included in the magazine. It contains writing by students, a professor, and an Alumnus of the college--a worthy continuum, certainly-which has been selected because the members of Parnassians and the editors found it particularly pleasing. Hopefully, you will find it equally so.
