Abstract
U·biq·ui·ty [yoo-bik-wi-tee] n., The state or quality of being, or appearing to be, everywhere at once; actual or perceived omnipresence. You currently possess in your hands a portal: an entrance to an ubiquitous realm raining down possibilities. Art and words transport you to countless places simultaneously. A charcoal of a marine harbor takes you to Spain, India, or Brazil; all the while, though, you are still standing – unmoved – with these pages resting in your palms. A familiar poem swings you into your past – or someone else’s past. Creative expression allows possibilities to slip through stanzas, to glide along a canvas, enveloping you in a myriad of translations, transportations, and transformations. Through this expression, you are permitted to widen your eyes in order to see all the possibilities art presents to you; you are allowed to drift away along with it. We now offer you the Pine River Anthology. We hope that through it – through the students’ ambitions and dreams cradled within these pages – you will be open to wherever it takes you. We hope that we are able to crack open your minds, even just a little, to show you a glimmer of ubiquity. The Pine River Anthology staff would like to thank all of the students for their submissions and involvement in the creative community. Special thanks to McKay Press, especially Scott McDonald, for the professional printing guidance. Also thanks to the English and Art Departments, as well as Student Congress, for their monetary and intellectual support.
