Abstract
For this Honor’s Day presentation, the art and design seniors will be displaying the 2024 Senior Show titled Spectrum. The senior show represents the culminating work for the seniors in the art and design department who are receiving their degrees this spring. Each student has produced an individual body of work with topics ranging from the stigmas of mental illness to environmental exploitation. The art and design seniors will each discuss their works, the elements of design they employed in their medium, and what impressions they hope to make on each viewer. Each senior will be presenting as follows: • Alexandra Gillies: Explore the idea of control by depicting situations where humans are in positions of power over dragons, a creature known for its strength and prowess through history. • Abigail Zerbe: Using photography to representationally document the experience of individuals who live with debilitating mental disorders in hopes to destigmatize their experience and open up a dialogue about how we as a society treat and support those with illnesses beyond depression and anxiety. • Chetara Knight: Using multimedia, discussing the importance of loving yourself the way you are going to be, the way you are, and who you were. Knowing who you are regardless of the perception. • Corey Zeneberg: Exploring and discussing White Knight Syndrome and the Martyr Complex through the use of sculpture and performance art. • Elizabeth Scott: Discussing the neurodivergent experience through the use of comics surrounding the characters of Alice in Wonderland. • Takeveiona Costigan: Using multimedia portraiture to navigate the discussion around the many forms of abandonment and childhood trauma. • Vincent Johnson: Exploring themes of gender identity and mental illness through the use of multimedia collage, including acrylic paint and fabric. • Weston Hirvela: Immersing the audience in worlds of whimsy and strife. Creating characters to foster empathy, self-reflection, and connection. • Yuhao Guo: Design a real-time strategy trading card game that fulfills a childhood dream.
