Abstract
This project examines how community perceptions of the Pine River in Alma, Michigan shape public engagement with the river. Given the Pine River’s history of pollution and environmental concern, many community members question its safety and overall condition. This research investigates how students, residents, faculty, and staff currently view the river and what changes would encourage greater use and involvement.
The study addresses the following questions: How often do community members visit the Pine River? Where do people receive information about it? How safe and healthy do they believe it is? What activities would motivate them to spend time there? What improvements would increase visitation? The goal of this research is to produce data-driven insights that can support future environmental initiatives, community programming, and communication strategies.
