Abstract
Abstract: Special educators are responsible for providing an education to those that have disabilities under IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Act). Special educators need to understand the planning and implementation of certain educational programs in order to have meaningful and achievable goals and outcomes for students. With this, special educators also need a collaborative team to be able to work with and understand what role they play in each student's education. Special educators are well prepared to give out SEL (social emotional learning) to improve understanding of how emotions are regulated and how they are important. They understand how to reach the minds of their students with different actions that might give students a better understanding of what emotions they are at. To elaborate on how special educators work through this process daily, this paper provides a case example which highlights the essential skills and knowledge needed of special educators across the United States. This paper will include a literature review, case study, and interventions into SEL with EI students.
