The Pine River Anthology, 2024-25: Weather the Storm By Audrey Hester, Rachel Olivieri, Emma Risinger, Emily Kraenzlein, Mick Webb, Amanda Baker
The Pine River Anthology (PRA) is a student-created and led publication of art and writing on Alma’s campus. It exists to showcase the work created by Alma College students, and is a result of the collaboration of the Art and English departments. Its contents can include poetry, prose, paintings, sculpture, photography, and all other forms of visual art. This year’s publication is the 72nd in the organization’s history, with the theme of Weather the Storm. Works are encouraged, but not required, to revolve around the theme in some way. 2024 was a stressful, chaotic year for the United States, and at many points it did feel like a storm. Creating art is often a way humanity deals with struggle, and PRA gives artists and writers the opportunity to channel their emotions into a healthy, creative outlet. It also allows that artwork to be distributed outwards to positively impact the rest of Alma’s student body, and any others who follow and enjoy the publication. Now, more than ever, the world needs art and writing and the healing it can bring. Similar to last year, the Pine River Anthology presentation at this year’s Honors Day will feature a brief introduction and overview of the design process by the Editor-in-Chief, followed by smaller talks and explanations of various submissions by the artists who created them.
